Placing Tracking and Conversion Codes

How do I add my tracking code to my website?

Follow these steps to add the FuelX Tracking Code to your website:

  1. Obtain your Tracking Code from your Account Manager or from the “Tracking” section in your FuelX Dashboard
  2. Copy everything in the snippet including everything from <script> to </script>
  3. Paste it in its entirety before the end head tag </head> on every page of your site’s HTML.
  4. Verify your code is activated by logging back into your FuelX Dashboard. The red warnings on the FuelX dashboard next to Tracking Code and Conversion Code will change to a green check mark after 24hrs if the code is placed correctly.

Place the code on every page of your site in order to properly track campaign performance. If your site uses a base HTML file you will only need to place the code in this file. If no base file exists, manually place the code on every page.

How do I track conversions?

There are two ways to implement goal tracking on your campaign with FuelX:

  1. You can track goals in terms of the number of users that reach a URL, for example a “Thank you” page or success screen,
  2. or you can track conversions with eCommerce data, including product ID, order value and order ID, with more advanced eCommerce tracking.

Your account manager can help you modify your conversion code to make sure it is set up properly to track your goal correctly.

How do I enable eCommerce conversion tracking?

Enabling conversion or eCommerce data tracking allows you to fully measure the return on your campaign.

Most eCommerce sites track conversions from the “Thank you” or success page that result after a user successfully completes a purchase.

You may include the following variables in your Tracking Code to measure conversion data:

Conversion Data

Description

productId

The SKU or unique identifier for the product(s) in the transaction.

orderId

(highly recommended)

This is the unique ID for the transaction or order. While this field is not required, we really encourage you use it. Cross checking an order ID is one of the best ways for you to verify the conversions that FuelX brings you. 

orderValue

This is the total revenue associated with the order processed. Including this field will allow you to measure the ROI on your campaign with FuelX.

To track conversion data including order value, order ID and product ID modify the Tracking Code on the “Thank you” or success page that renders after a successful transaction to include variables for order ID, order value product ID.

The code provided by your Account Manager will appear in the following format:

You will place the parameter for productID, orderId and orderValue inside the quotation marks in the code. When a conversion occurs successfully, the resulting code will appear like this on the success or “Thank you” page:

How do I confirm if the Conversion Tracking Code is placed correctly?

We have created a tool to help you test whether your conversion tracking Code is placed correctly.

To test if the code was implemented correctly:

  1. Login to the FuelX dashboard.
  2. Opening the “Conversion Code Test” under “Measure ROI”.
  3. Input an Order ID for an order that occurred after you placed your Tracking Code.
  4. If the code is firing, you will see a summary of the conversion in the table to the right. Check against your records to make sure the values match these results.

Tracking goals

To track a goal, provide the URL to your account manager for the webpage that your visitors reach when they complete a transaction, purchase or sign up. You will see results in terms of number of conversions on your dashboard under the “Conversions” table.

If you use Google Analytics to track goals on your site, the goal url you provide to FuelX should match the goal url you have specified on Google Analytics.
